Abstract
Through theoretical foundations, this paper discusses the artistic abilities of children and the significance of works of art for their development. Methods of observing, analysing, and using works of art in working with children are presented. The aim of the paper is to examine whether it is possible to encourage the development of children’s artistic abilities using the artworks of Pablo Picasso. The research was organised and conducted in the “Srna” kindergarten in Banja Luka. The sample included 25 children, aged five and six, featuring 13 girls and 12 boys. The research was realised through three artistic activities, where children expressed themselves using techniques from the fields of drawing, painting, and printmaking. The research results showed that preschool children react positively to Pablo Picasso’s artworks and that they can be used in multiple ways and through various techniques as an incentive for children’s artistic expression and the development of artistic abilities.
