Abstract

This paper offers, for the first time, a comprehensive view of key features of individualisation of instruction and teaching and moral education of students within the paradigm of ‘Pedagogy of Essence’ and theoretical foundations of representative alternative schools. Through a metatheoretical analysis, it has been established that individualisation of instruction and effective teaching in classes designed for individuals and other variants of this form of teaching, as well as the overall individualisation of instruction and moral education in inclusive school can be founded, to a large extent, on the starting points and intentions of various movements of ‘Pedagogy of Essence’ (pedeutology, individual pedagogy, the pedagogy of personalised learning, progressive pedagogy, and pedocentrism), especially at the stage of pedagogical-psychological diagnostics, that is, recognition and identification of developmental potentials, cognitive needs, some possible obstacles in learning and participation in class, and other characteristic individual features of students. Furthermore, it has been established that foundations for planning, realisation, and evaluation of the entire process of individualisation of instruction and teaching and moral education can be found in the theoretical approaches of the Quality School (theory of control and reality therapy), of the School of Life (human-centred pedagogy), and of the Summerhill School (pedagogy of emancipatory or free moral education), that is, positive experiences and pedagogical achievements of the abovementioned renowned alternative schools, which is elaborated in the paper.
