Abstract
The topic of professional competences of junior grade teachers has been in focus of contemporary educators (notion determination, structural components, classification criteria, professional development etc). Even with solid theoretical foundation, the matter has been poorly researched in practical terms. For that reason, this paper presents results of such a research concerning selfevaluation of the level of development of the aforementioned competences, with not only general level determined, but also the levels in specific areas (groups): pedagogic, psychological, didactic, and methodological competences. In addition, hypotheses on the connection of the level of development with sociopedagogic features of teachers (sex, qualifications, the grade they teach, work experience) have been statistically checked.
